We love to discover a new place through the eyes of a local. That’s why we asked Kiri, Store Manager of our Camp Hopson branch in Newbury, and the rest of her team, to give us an insider’s guide to the location. From the best brunch spots to fun days out for little ones, here’s everything you need to know about Newbury.
What is your favourite thing about Newbury?
We all love Victoria Park and the Kennet Canal. Victoria Park is the perfect spot for a picnic on a sunny day and, if you’re lucky, your meal will be accompanied by a musical performance at the bandstand. Kennet Canal offers a really beautiful countryside walk surrounded by nature – great for a moment of peace and serenity.
Where is the best place for a day of shopping?
Of course, we’re devotees of Camp Hopson Department Store, where you can find The White Company. Another nearby option is Parkway shopping district, which is also a lovely place to shop, and has a great atmosphere.
If someone only had 24 hours to spend in Newbury, what would you recommend they do?
We’d suggest eating at The Lock Stock & Barrel, which overlooks our beautiful canal, before heading off for a day at the races (Newbury Racecourse is rumoured to be a favourite of The Queen). Then, treat yourself to a G&T at The Catherine Wheel, before enjoying dinner at Henry and Joes; a locally run – and very delicious – restaurant.
Where is your favourite brunch spot in Newbury?
It has to be either Côte Brasserie or Bill’s. They both have a really great array of choices so you’re sure to find something for everyone. We especially recommend the pancakes at Bill’s, which are particularly tasty.
Where is the best place to take children during half-term?
A walk up to Donnington Castle is a great way to spend days during half-term. The big open space is perfect for tiring out little legs as they run up and down the hills, or clamber over the old castle walls.
What are your must-have pieces from our current collection?
We adore the Autumn fragrance and can often be found spritzing the tester in store. The cashmere jumpers are just so soft and luxurious; we’re all excited to start wearing cosy clothing and layering up this Winter. Finally, we have to give a special shout-out to Natalie’s new biker-style boots which she adores.
