Deciding what to wear to work can be difficult at the best of times, however, throw in a spell of hot weather and things become all the more complicated. To make the process easier, we’ve pulled together our guide to dressing for your 9-5 – without getting hot under the collar.
It’s a wrap
There’s no end to the benefits of a wrap dress – it’s a flattering shape, a whole outfit in one and, most importantly, it’s wonderfully cool on hot days. In a loose fit-and-flare silhouette, these accentuate your shape while remaining breathable. Plus, the midi length and cap sleeves mean they’re still appropriate in more conservative offices.
On the subject of all things breathable, we’ve got one word for you: linen. This gorgeously light fabric is the secret to staying cool in Summer (and we have five reasons to love it). Swap blouses for breathable tops and change up your Oxford Trousers to ones in a linen mix to beat the heat.
Traditional workwear trousers can be stifling during Summer months, so opt for more fluid shapes, instead. Wide-leg trousers are a lightweight option and mean you don’t have to abandon your formal look, while a wrap-midi skirt can be a breezier alternative to trousers.
Need something to pair with those culottes? Don’t ditch classic shirts just yet – simply switch to beautifully cool, pure-cotton styles, instead. A jersey-slub style in a loose shape is a smart alternative, as is the timeless appeal of simple stripes.
A light layer
While the weather might be balmy outside, office air-con can still wreak havoc with carefully planned outfits. Stay one step ahead and accessorise with a scarf or light cardigan that will combat any office chills.
