Whether you’re spending 14th February with a significant other, family, or friends, make the most of it with these ideas. You could even make a weekend of it and try all three…
A day trip
Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, so why not take some time off (or postpone plans to Saturday) for a special day out? Visit all your most-loved places, rediscover old haunts, or explore a new town. Beautiful knitwear will keep you warm as you wander, while a super-soft scarf makes a lovely present for them (or yourself).
An evening in
Impress your guest with a meal in a heart-shaped dish, or work together on a new recipe. You could even pick a favourite film to watch and create a themed menu, with matching cocktails served in stylish glasses. As it’s still chilly outside, keep a cosy throw nearby to snuggle up with after supper.
1 apple, peeled, cored, and sliced into small cubes
1 tbsp granulated sugar
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
3½ tbsp (30 g) all-purpose flour
2 tbsp (25g) granulated sugar
2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter, melted
1½ tbsp old-fashioned oats, chopped pecans, or walnuts (optional)
- Preheat oven to 180°C/gas 4.
- In a small bowl, toss apples with sugar and cinnamon to make the filling. Divide into two individual ramekins, press them slightly and then set aside.
- To make the topping, mix the flour and sugar, then add melted butter. Combine with a fork, until the mixture clumps together into crumbly balls. Then pour in the oats and nuts, if using, and sprinkle crumble evenly on top of the apple mixture.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. Serve warm, and top with ice cream.
A night out
Fancy going all out this 14th February? Recreate a first date, or try a brand-new restaurant, popular gallery, or must-see show. Dress the part in luxurious satin, or opt for a tried-and-tested embellished blouse and jeans combo. A pair of stunning earrings will add a touch of sparkle to any outfit, too.
