From embracing the art of hygge to delicious seasonal cooking, making the most of the season is easy with our handy Autumn checklist.
“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of earth.”
Henry David Thoreau, poet and philosopher
Seasonal change is afoot: there’s a sharp, pleasing crispness to the morning air, and the leaves are slowly changing from green to red and gold. Immerse yourself in the delights of the new season with our easy-to-follow checklist.
Eat the season
Eating locally sourced, in-season produce is always good practice – and Autumn is the perfect time to start. Indulge every sense with hearty, classic crowd-pleasers: think blackberry crumble, toad-in-the-hole, and crunchy roasted vegetables simply prepared in our new Porto roaster.
‘Hygge’ (pronounced ‘heurgha’) has no direct English translation, but this Danish practice – the art of creating a cosy, restorative feel in the home – is a word you’ll be hearing at every turn this Autumn. Hunkering down in your favourite armchair, slowly savouring a cup of tea, or snuggling up with family are all ways to perfect the art of hygge. The key lies in simple pleasures: fireside chats, softly flickering candles, and losing yourself in a classic novel.
Refresh your bed linen
With colder nights and darker mornings, the slightest change to your sleep routine can make all the difference. Make this the season you try something new: a silk pillowcase (simply wonderful for hair and skin), luxury faux-fur touches, or a more supportive pillow.
A woodland walk is the perfect way to seize Autumnal weekends. Gather the troops and make the most of the crisp, sunny days – little ones will love picking juicy blackberries, finding shiny brown conkers and kicking fallen leaves underfoot.
