Autumn is a sensory season like no other. From the crunch of leaves to the cool, smoothness of conkers and the subtle scent of those first dewy mornings, it can truly capture and captivate each and every one of our senses. Scent, in particular, has the ability to transport us like nothing else – whether that’s to a far-flung island or to a snapshot of a memory, decades in the past.
For our Autumn brochure (you can request one here if you’ve not received yours yet), Beauty Editor Rosie Green described what the evocative nature of scent means to her.
ROSIE ON AUTUMN
“Autumn, for me, is rich with feel-good scents. The lushness of the last cut of grass in October, the gunpowdery remnants of a Catherine wheel cloaking the night air in November. And then, before you know it, there’s Christmas, with the sweet smell of roasted chestnuts, the spicy waft of mulled wine and cleansing aromatic pine pervading the hall.”
ROSIE ON HOME SCENTING
“I choose the same The White Company Winter candle each year to welcome guests into the living room and put a Winter diffuser in their bedroom, so they’ll get a rush of pleasure every time they smell that alchemic clove and cinnamon mix somewhere else. For my children, I hope that using that same scent habitually means one sniff will forever anchor them to the security and love of home.”

ROSIE ON PERFUME
“The feel-good factor of scent never fails to amaze me. I’m always astounded by how transformative a spritz of fragrance is to my outlook. Luxurious and sensual, anointing myself with a precious droplet of eau de toilette or a luxurious body cream says to myself (and, I think, others) I am worthy of investing time and expense.”
