If you do nothing else to your home this season, add some white flowers; living fragments of the world outside, they connect us back to nature in a way that feels innately balancing. Not sure where to begin? Renowned florist Philippa Craddock is an expert at creating an enviable bouquet with a few key stems. Here, she reveals how to transform your displays with four styling ideas that go hand-in-hand with Spring’s fresh mood.
1. En masse
“The catkins on salix form in early Spring and are a brilliant, long-lasting display; just add delicate ammi visnaga to vary the texture. One of my favourite in-season flowers is a heady hyacinth, which looks particularly magnificent displayed en masse, too.” Philippa Craddock
For a low-maintenance living-room arrangement, style these flowers in two or three vases and place along your coffee table. Complement the white buds and balance out the green by using our white Stoneware Vases, instead of clear glass ones.
2. Big bouquets
“Spiral big, bold bunches of pure white flowers, and place on a side table in your hallway or kitchen as a stunning statement piece. Anemones are an all-time favourite of mine for this.” Philippa Craddock
Show off the beautiful curled stems, which look every bit as impactful as the bloom itself, by opting for a lovely clear-glass vase. Our Large Boston Vase is a standout accessory that’s ideal for holding long-stemmed flowers and has a gently curved scissor-cut rim, which gives plenty of room for the buds to blossom.
3. Understated branches
“These bottle-shaped vases are a design piece in their own right. They look amazing with two abundant branches of apple-tree blossom but, with their clever narrow rim, they work just as well with a single foliage stem such as asparagus fern.” Philippa Craddock
This is the perfect way to create a display that won’t cost a fortune as you just need to buy two branches from your local florist every couple of weeks. For an easy-care option, try our authentic-looking Pussy Willow Branches, which come in a set of five and look ever-beautiful on show.
4. Go wild
“Create an effortless table setting using different-shaped vases and bottles, each filled with a mixture of simple delicate stems, miniature potted herbs and Spring greenery.” Philippa Craddock
When styling an array of wild flowers along the table, adopt a relaxed mix-and-match attitude to the vases you use, too. Think Mini Bud Vases, Earthenware Planters and white stoneware mixed with clear-glass designs. This creates a lovely carefree setting, and the varied heights, textures and colours look stunning. Pick sprigs from your garden, stems from the florist and potted Spring bulbs for a wonderfully rustic arrangement.
This season, we’ve made finding the right vase for your bouquet a delightfully easy task. With glass vases in all shapes and sizes, including our striking Smoked Glass Vase, and new white Stoneware Vases, you’re sure to find the perfect fit.
