The humble flat sheet is a bedding essential, but it is often overlooked. Discover all the ways to use one to make your bed look (and feel) better in minutes.
1. Use as a laundry time saver
Traditionally, flat sheets are meant to keep your duvet cover or bedspread fresher for longer. When making your bed, tuck your flat sheet into the foot of your bed, layer your dressed duvet on top and fold the flat sheet’s cuff over at the top. This simple step takes seconds and means that your duvet cover will only need changing every other week = fewer laundry days for you.
TIP: Busy hosts will find this makes their beds look hotel-worthy, as well as reducing the laundry pile.
2. Use as a deep-mattress saviour
If you dress your mattress with a plush topper, you may find it difficult to get a regular fitted sheet to fit. To solve this problem, we recommend buying a flat sheet in a size bigger than your bed and folding it to tuck around your mattress. We love the immaculately smooth finish a flat sheet can give the overall look of your bed.
TIP: Make your life easier by opting for our Easy Care Flat Sheet that needs minimal ironing.
3. Use as a way to update your style
The easiest way to refresh the look of your pure-white bed is to add a flat sheet with a touch of subtle detail on the cuff. Choose between subtle white picot stitches, pom-poms or contrast-colour piping to suit your mood and you’ve created a whole new look in seconds.
TIP: Place it on your bed upside down so that when you fold it over the duvet cover the decorative cuff is visible.
4. Use as a lighter layer
In the Winter months, layering a flat sheet beneath your duvet will add a little extra warmth, whereas in Summer it can be used without the duvet for a light and airy cover (à la Europe).
TIP: Prevent your flat sheet bunching in the night by tucking it tightly beneath your mattress across three sides of the bed.
