If you feel like you want a bit of an interiors refresh but don’t want to commit to a total home makeover, there’s one sure-fire way to transform a space in a matter of minutes: cushions.
Using decorative cushions is an easy and affordable way to breathe new life into your home each season, complementing your surroundings with some seasonal style. Follow our easy tips below for maximum impact and be sure to share photos on Instagram using the hashtag #MyWhiteCo.
1. Play with shapes and sizes
To bring an extra dimension to your living room or bedroom, try mixing up the shapes and sizes of your cushions for a quick fix. Many cushions come in a standard 50cm x 50cm square, so seek out other shapes and proportions for added impact.
2. Mix up textures and fabrications
Sometimes you look at a room and know that something is missing. All the components of a great design are there – colour scheme, furniture, ornaments and arrangements – but the room just feels a little flat. If this scenario feels familiar, introducing more texture may be the answer. Mixing and matching cushions in faux fur, linen, velvet, tweed, wool and more is a simple change that can have a big impact by providing balance and depth.
3. Odd or even?
There are all sorts of rules about an even number of cushions versus an odd number. We say do what feels right for you. If you enjoy a more eclectic look, an odd placement works well. We like nestling two cushions in one corner and one pillow in the other, or stacking five different-sized styles along the length of the sofa. If you’re a little more traditional, stick to even numbers — two on either side.
