Autumn is coming, which means swapping our Summer dresses for cashmere jumpers, alfresco dining for candlelit dinners and generally preparing for the colder days ahead. But what does this mean for our complexion? We caught up with Brandon Truaxe, founder of global-beauty brand DECIEM (and co-creator of our skincare collection), to learn exactly how we can maintain a healthy glow when temperatures drop…
Skin can behave in different ways at different times of year. Why can Autumn cause our skin to look dull and dry?
Everything can affect our skin, from pollution levels to stress levels. While seasonal changes in the environment are always a factor, these changes can be more dramatic in Autumn because of the colder, drier conditions and also because reduced sunlight affects the body.
What’s the best way to tackle this so our skin stays glowing all year (whatever the weather)?
For skin to glow, several things (basically, almost everything) need to be in order: evenness of texture, pigmentation balance, circulation and hydration (both oil and water content). The key to fighting dullness is to focus on the quality of skin at large. Instead of using short-term radiance “boosters” that largely peel the skin, Super Serum and Night Oil use accurately isolated plant molecules to support skin health to encourage a sustainable glow.
For those who suffer with very dry skin, which are the most hydrating ingredients to look out for in beauty products, and how do they address these concerns?
Hydrated skin feels comfortable and looks even because both the water and oil content are in balance. The key to achieving this harmony is to use ingredients that help the skin retain water, like saccharides and hyaluronic acid, as well as oil ingredients that offer surface hydration and protection. Advanced Hydration uses a combination of advanced forms of hyaluronic acid, as well as Amazonian oils and aloe butter, to help create dermal balance between water and oil.
For anyone new to our skincare range, what is it about the ingredients that make it so special?
Our lab formulated The White Company Skincare with a specific focus on using novel plant-based isolates that rival some of the most advanced clinical technologies available. As modern technology has evolved, it has allowed us to separate very specific functional molecules from plants. The result is very potent, often far more so than synthetic skincare technologies.
- Snack on nuts, which are rich in elasticity-boosting fatty acids
- Enhance hydration by applying serum before moisturiser
- Give yourself a facial massage when you cleanse to enhance the results of your products
- Keep drinking glasses of water; just because it’s not hot any more doesn’t mean your skin doesn’t need quenching
- Cleanse your make-up brushes once a week to avoid rubbing bacteria into your skin
