You may be familiar with our Winter fragrance, but did you know we now have a Spring fragrance, too? We caught up with our fragrance buyer, Alice McGhee, and assistant buyer, Sophie Baker, about our beautiful new Spring scent collection. From the inspiration behind the scent to where it’s best to place your diffuser, we’ve got all the insider knowledge from the experts.
The new Spring fragrance collection
What was the inspiration behind the Spring scent?
“We wanted to introduce a Spring scent to ring the seasonal change from Winter into Spring. As you come out of Winter and Christmas and enter the new year, there is a sense of renewal – the days slowly get longer and lighter, Spring bulbs start to flourish and everything feels a little fresher and brighter. So, we’ve tried to evoke the celebration of Spring and its fresh, bright beginning, thanks to the heart of the scent bursting with floral notes.
What are the main notes?
“The scent is very floral based, but has a slightly more modern blend than our existing Flowers fragrance, which is more traditional in its notes. The honeysuckle, rose, neroli and narcissus make up the majority of the floral element, but we have layered in cut grass to bring green, fresh notes to it, plus added a little musk and vetivert to the base to give it some depth and warmth.”
What room would you recommend this sits in?
“The great thing about floral scents is they work in most areas of your home. The Spring range has key products to get the best scent level for fragrancing your home – a diffuser to provide a constant background scent, a candle that offers atmospheric lift§, as well as great scent release when lit, and then a home spray to boost fragrance levels. In regards to where to place Spring: in the hallway you achieve a lovely scent to welcome guests, in the living room it provides a fresh, seasonal ambience and, in your bedroom, where you don’t want anything too overpowering, it will softly scent the room.”
If you like this scent, what other scents are similar?
“Our first fragrance, Flowers, will definitely be a favourite if you like Spring, as will Blanc. We have also introduced two limited-edition candles, inspired by floristry – White Rose and White Hyacinth – which both come in a gorgeous rustic white-paper bag. These scents are perfect for anyone who loves floral-based fragrances.”
What is your favourite The White Company scent?
“I’m often asked that question, and find it very difficult to answer! I tend to fall in love with new scents, so it’s difficult to choose one. For home fragrances, it really depends on the time of year and the room I am purchasing for, but our new Lime & Bay scent is a firm favourite, as it’s so versatile. I prefer to scent my home with richer scents during the colder months, for which Pomegranate and, of course, Winter are perfect. For bath and body, I tend to choose more citrus-inspired scents, so Verveine is generally my choice.”
If you were buying a fragrance for the first time at The White Company, what product what you recommend?
“It depends on the end use. For the home, I would recommend a candle – we offer a generous level of fragrance and a great scent release, so you can gauge if you like it. You can also move it around your home and decide which room you prefer it in. If you fall in love with the scent then I would recommend going back and purchasing the diffuser, which offers all-round scenting. A home spray will then boost and refresh the fragrance level.
For bath and body, I would buy a hand lotion or body lotion – like perfumes, these can smell different from person to person, as they react with different skin types. I would recommend trying one of the lotions and then if you like it, layer in the washes and perhaps even some of the home fragrance products, too.”
