We’ve finally shaken off those last, damp days of Winter and there’s a Bank Holiday on the horizon – the perfect excuse for a picnic. Pray for good weather and we’ll do the rest – we’ve rounded-up our top three UK picnic locations – wherever you’re based – as well as tips on what to bring with you.
Calton Hill, Edinburgh
After the walk up Calton Hill in Edinburgh, you’ll certainly have worked up an appetite for your picnic. With breathtaking views of the city and beautiful crumbling monuments, it’s unmistakable with its Athenian acropolis poking above the skyline.
Our tip: You won’t want to take too many heavy things with you, so we recommend our easily folded waterproof blanket and plastic cups.
Hampstead Heath, London
Located away from the hubbub of London’s bustling city centre, Hampstead Heath’s vast landscape is full of natural beauty, making it a prime picnicking spot in the capital. If you like your picnic with a view, Parliament Hill is the perfect point to put down your blanket, while London Zoo, athletics track, education centre, swimming ponds and lido will keep the whole family entertained once you’ve finished eating.
Our tip: You won’t be short on things to do here, so take our beautiful hand-woven basket with you, stocked to the brim with delicious food to keep you full from lunch until supper.
Wollaton Park, Nottingham
Home to a huge array of wildlife, a museum and wonderful scenic walking routes, Wollaton Park provides the entertainment for you – just bring the food. Take a seat by the lake, and enjoy staring out across the water, or watch the beautiful herds of red deer and fallow deer, which roam freely in the huge grounds. Fans of Batman will also love the location – The Dark Knight Rises was filmed here.
Our tip: Spread out our super-comfortable Henley Outdoor Mattress and matching scatter cushions by the side of the lake – there are plenty of shady spots under the trees.
