A picture-perfect English garden; the finest barbeque fare; flowing cocktails; and an exclusive guest list in the form of 50 top bloggers. These were just some of the ingredients that came together last Friday to create the ultimate in Summer entertaining events.
At The White Company, we absolutely love a garden party, and with our latest Homewear Collection celebrating all things alfresco, we decided to reveal some of our top tips for hosting the ultimate Summer party yourself (which we’ll be sharing with you on our blog over the coming weeks).
The backdrop for the event was the magnificent grounds of Eltham Palace – an English Heritage site of two tales, where inside 1930s Art Deco design meets medieval gothic. As our guests arrived, they were led through an archway of purple wisteria and met by the serene tones of The CARN string quartet, before sipping on deliciously crisp rosé wine supplied by our friends at 31Dover (and stylishly chilled in our Porto Wine Coolers). We had dressed the magnificent gardens with some of our all-time favourite Summer entertaining pieces from our Outdoor Living Collection. This included giant Bamboo Lanterns, our fabulously comfortable Henley Outdoor Mattresses (perfect for guests to lounge on in the sunshine) and Poplin Bunting that looked stunning draped along the garden’s extensive walls.
On the food front we had the talented Tim Maddams – former head chef at River Cottage – showing us how to elevate barbeque food to a whole new level. The menu included charcoal-fired salt Pollock, wood-fired garlic flat bread, grilled asparagus with goats’ curd, lemon and mint and, of course, no English garden party would be complete without strawberries, shortbread and cream (this time infused with geranium and Limoncello – an absolute revelation). In-between relaxing in the gardens, catching-up with friends, and feasting on the finest food, guests were also treated to a series of demonstrations offering tips and tricks for hosting their own Summer entertaining event.
The White Company’s Luke Batchelor showed everyone how to lay the perfect party table, while 31Dover explained how to match food to wine. Tim Maddams gave his tips on how to cook a crowd-pleasing barbeque, and Eltham Palace’s head gardener shared his advice for getting an outside space Summer-entertaining-ready.
We’ll be sharing these tips and recipes on our blog over the coming weeks so you can make use of them for any upcoming Summer parties you’re planning. In the meantime, you can find all of the fabulous Summer entertaining pieces that we used to style our event here.
